This morning I woke up to find my WiFi network was not connecting to the internet because my AT&T fiber modem decided to hiccup.
Thank goodness for print to PDF
My fiber line went down, and somehow decided to completely forget about the dedicated IP address setup I use for Activimetrics. Of course, I set this all up so long ago that I could not remember how I did it. But I did find an email exchange with AT&T tech support from 2021 saying that I switched over to fiber from my old DSL provider. That gave me a clue as to which laptop to rummage around in to find my configuration details. I bought my current laptop (System76 Lemur Pro) in about mid 2022, which I was hoping was close enough that I would have copied the files over. Sure enough, I found a long list of PDF file titles that looked exactly right. Thirty minutes later, my IP address was back to being assigned to my server, and my email/website/local WiFi were all up and running once again.
As a bonus, as long as everything was hosed anyway, I took the opportunity to finally set up a hard ethernet link between the fiber router and my server, so the connection should be slightly faster.
The moral of the story is that once again, today-me thanks past-me for having the foresight to document settings for things that are “set and forget”, because of course, the second word there is forget!
